Dr. Liz Tarshis

Registered Psychologist

About Me

As a psychologist with over 30 years of experience, my primary objective is to provide a safe and supportive environment that promotes self-awareness, strength, and resilience. I incorporate self-compassion, mindfulness, and cognitive strategies into my person-centered, relational approach to therapy. I provide a space for clients to express and understand their feelings and develop new strategies for dealing with challenges, changes, and transitions.

I work with clients from a broad diversity of cultural, racial and religious backgrounds who face a variety of challenges. These include:

  • Anxiety/Panic
  • Depression
  • Grief and Loss
  • Family and Relationship Issues
  • Trauma
  • Learning Disabilities; ADHD
  • Self Esteem
  • Life Transitions
  • Work/Life Balance

My Approach

As a therapist, I understand the importance of an integrated approach to psychotherapy. It starts with building a trusting relationship and maintaining a flexible style that allows clients to explore their feelings and experiences, both past and present. I support my clients to develop and enhance the coping skills and confidence needed to make changes in their lives and achieve desired goals. Together, we work on new approaches to address and alleviate obstacles and build a greater sense of awareness and self-understanding along the way.

Experience & Education

I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and bring over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. Outside of my private practice I worked for 15 years as a School Psychologist for the Toronto District School Board and over 20 years as a Personal Counsellor at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus Health & Wellness Centre. I have supervised Masters level practicum students and candidates preparing for registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists and the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

I received my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Boston University and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from McGill University. I continue to build my skills and knowledge through ongoing training.
